Just that DivX interface is more complex and let you alter some post processing options. But now I use DivX 5. So, try to use DivX as decoder and XviD as encoder. Cool so I guess it won't matter if you install one or the other or even both of them.

Yes, I would suggest ffdshow. So if you use the same filter for XviD DivX decoding there will be one filter less on your system. Don't need both. You don't need both, but if you want, you can play with BSplayer's "Filter management" settings to give much priority to filters to decode specific media files. If you decrease the merits of unneeded filters, it is unlikely they will get loaded. But why to keep those libraries in your system if you don't use them?
It is not a good idea to install it for just one format. I would suggest you to try ffdshow as your primary decoder and then add alternate ones if ffdshow won't satisfy you either with performance, number of features, stability or quality. Many windows users the large majority don't bother to search for an alternative to windows movie maker or WMP to encode files.

After restarting, I tested playing all my movie files without xvid or divx codec and I was surprised to see "all of my xvid and divx video files were running just fine and normal with all the media players I have.
